    in an everlasting covenant
    that will never be forgotten.”
My people were lost sheep;
    their shepherds led them astray
    and caused them to roam on the mountains.
They wandered over mountains and hills
    and lost the way to their fold.
Whoever came upon them devoured them,
    and their enemies insisted,
    “We incur no guilt,
because they have sinned
    against the Lord, their true pasture,
    against the Lord, the hope of their fathers.”
